AI Games – Adapting, Growing, and Evolving

If you’ve played a shooter where the computer reacts differently to different players, or where a character learns from their mistakes and adjusts accordingly, you’re already experiencing basic AI game playing. The next step in this evolution is generative AI (gen AI), where the game itself generates content and challenges that suit the player, rather than the other way around. Fantasy Gems Download

Teaching AI to Understand Game Context

Using reinforcement learning, which takes a trial and error approach to decision making, AI can be trained to make decisions that maximize the rewards of certain actions. This can be applied to NPCs in video games to make them appear more human. For example, if an NPC runs out of bullets in a firefight and dies as a result, the system can be programmed to look for cover next time it’s in danger.

However, generative AI isn’t without its critics. One major concern is that the software’s creation methods may be viewed as copyright infringement. Many generative AI tools use a vast library of images scraped from the internet and many gamers are wary about letting their game become an involuntary work of art. For this reason, the development of generative AI games needs to be done with caution and if it is used for in-game assets it should be clearly labeled as such to avoid a COD-style scandal. Fortunately, developers are becoming more aware of this potential issue and the development of gen AI games is a slow but steady process.
