What Is the Size of a Hockey Pitch?

A size of hockey pitch is a big investment for any club, school or college and it’s important that you get it right. A field hockey pitch should be built to FIH standards so that it can be used for professional matches and also training. However, the type of hockey pitch you install depends on your intended use – and there are three different options to choose from water-based, sand-dressed, and sand-filled. This article will help you decide which is the best option for your establishment.

What Is The Size Of A Hockey Pitch?

The standard length for a field hockey pitch is 100 meters and 7 centimeters, which equates to 328 feet and 1.5 inches. However, this measurement does vary depending on the level of match being played. International matches and major tournaments will require a longer pitch than local or amateur games.

In addition to the standard dimensions of a hockey pitch, there are a number of other specifications that need to be adhered to. These include the goalposts, which are made up of two upright posts equidistant from each other and joined at the top by a crossbar that must be white and rectangular in shape.

There are also lines marked on the turf which form the two striking circles around the goal, as well as a penalty circle at each end. In a penalty corner, the ball can only be shot from within the striking circle and players must pass or dribble the ball with their stick.
